Hah! Thanks, man. I'm choosing to see those crow's feet that are starting to gather around the eyes as distinguished. Hope all is well!

I identify with your ageing concerns Neil, you're about 6 weeks older than me! Feeling and looking younger than our years has to be celebrated I think. Enjoy your birthday tomorrow.

Celebrated and grasped with both hands! Enjoy your 45th in 6 weeks, man. So far, I can say it's not much worse than 44 ;)

Great post. Happy birthday! I turned 42, and then 45, just last year. And somehow now I'm 49 which strikes me as an age at which I should stop thinking of myself as "fresh out of college." It's going much too fast.

You've compiled some great links here. The Magic Money Tree project is outstanding work. I'd seen Dina Litovsky's piece and it just struck me as how different it is from my experience, and it's horrifying to consider hers. I don't know how we got here.

Looking forward to perusing the other things you've shared.

Thanks very much, Bill. Much appreciated. Yeah, this ageing thing bursts through the sound barrier around 40, and then it starts blasting through the Machs the longer we travel.

I'm glad you're enjoying the links - I'm always a little unsure of whether my choices will connect with others so it's great to hear when they do. Cheers, man. ❤️🫡

A couple of things. First—loving your writing! Second—loving the "what's been happening" and "dispatches" sections.

Third—Gerda Taro WAS Robert Capa! At least for a while. The photographers Endre Friedmann and Gerta Porohylle, early in their careers, decided to hide their Jewish names behind a single identity, "Robert Capa"—they also thought it might be more attractive to the American market. Pretty soon, though, Friedmann too RC, and Gerta took GT, and so they remained.

I recently found out that Capa is buried a scant fifteen minutes from my house, in the hills north of NYC. I haven't made a pilgrimage yet, but will be sure to report on it when I do.
