Glad I found your newsletter! I just recently discoverd Richard Kavlar's work (a little late to the game) and was blown away. Can you reccomend any of his books - preferably in print?

Hi Rob. Thanks for being in touch! He's one of the touchstones for my photography, certainly. He doesn't have many solo books. There is only the one commercially available at the moment and it's the Thames and Hudson Photofile series. https://thamesandhudson.com/photofile-richard-kalvar-9780500411148

His own monograph, Earthlings, is out of print. I bought mine on ebay. You can hear him talk about it, and see some of the photos here:

Thanks for writing this, Neil. I agree that everything is getting lost in the Social Media matrix - including my mind. This platform has offered a way out. Thank you, also, for enjoying my post on "The Mysterious Photograph". I love candid people photography, and your photos are wonderful.

Back in November when I wrote this, I was frustrated by social media and the seeming lack of reach for anything half-way creative. 8 Months on, despite the premature delirium of Threads, the situation is a chemical bin-fire, and I do feel a little vindicated. It has only been in the last few weeks that Substack became something more than an Email Management System to me. I'm wary, as the folk at the top of Substack do seem to promote some politically questionable accounts, but since I began using Notes, I feel like it has taken the place of everything else.

And thank you very much for the lovely comment of my photography. I'm happy to know you like the photos.
