Cracking post! Looking forward to also catching up on the YouTube series - thanks for the recommendation 🫡 How’re the studies going? Hectic here - life on hold 😬 Keep well 👍🏼
All going well. I had a bit of a slow-down through summer. I think a delayed reaction of starting studies right after leaving 13 years of work, without a break. I'm back to a decent pace now, so cracking on. Hope all is well with yours :)
I hadn’t known about the upcoming Lee Miller biopic- but checked out a book from the library on her war correspondent images so, I’m even more excited to browse that book now. And looking forward to checking out that YouTube series, too.
Thanks for reading! :) Lee Miller is a fascinating topic for a biopic - I just hope it's a good movie. Early reviews weren't positive but more recent ones have improved.
The Leibovitz recreation is tremendous, isn't it? And Gilden's such a stark portraitist. I know there's the hard light that enhances it, but his use of vivid colour never fails to impress.
Thank you so much for the mention! Your newsletter is always so full of great information and recommendations! Thank you!
Ah! You're very welcome. I thought your article was excellent. (As always, to be fair).
And thank you ❤️🫡

All good. The uni systems (Canvas, etc) are tricky to get my head around but we’re all the same. Glad you’ve settled into your groove.
Thanks for another great roundup, Neil.

Gilden’s photos of Scorsese are great, and they matched the tone of the article - heroicize his legacy while revealing the human underneath.
Yeah, I completely agree. For someone often unfairly maligned as lacking empathy, Gilden is an astonishing portraitist.
Ah that’s an unbelievably kind bio you’ve given me there. Thanks so much for including me!
Very welcome, man. ❤️🫡

Yeah, everything about Gilden... the close up, the detail, the noses poking straight into the viewer. He's savage!
thank you very much, sir 🫡❤️
