The 'Chaos' you're describing is the heartbeat of street photography, Neil. In my years shooting for Getty, I've found that the secret isn't necessarily removing the chaos, but finding the one 'anchor',a gesture, a shaft of light, or a still figure, that allows the rest of the noise to exist without overwhelming the frame. It’s the difference between a messy photo and a photo of a mess. Great sets here.
Thanks for reading and for the comment, man. I hope I didn't give the impression I was uncomfortable with the chaos of last year. As a street photographer, it's my (our) job to live within it. For me, it's more often a gesture or expression that I'm looking for. Others do the shaft-of-light thing a lot better than I do. Last night, a different sort of chaos... the great Birmingham noisecore band, Napalm Death... and shooting from within the moshpit. Ooft! If you're ever in Warsaw, give me a shout. :)
Glad you’re back with details and images from your, to put it mildly, interesting-sounding year! I hope whatever is maddening you about this space doesn’t keep you away. Happy New Year!
Well, sorry you are disillusioned but always happy to hear from you! Yes, it sounds like a very eventful year. And yes, the fascist elements around the globe, and specifically in my own country, are very threatening, and we must resist and overcome them.
And I hope some of your furniture survives the new, super-cute puppy!
refreshingly ‘fresh - personal photo journalism.. though not doing much ‘subscribing lately - zero hesitation to Reflect such Endeavours early this AM in Canada eh 🦎🏴☠️🍁

A bit late to the game but this was a powerful portrait of a year!
I've been looking through photographers from Ronald Smeet's Photo Community and your profile caught my eye.
Looks like you have a lot going on but I hope you come back to Substack.
Amazing work!
